Artistic License

There are a lot of things to consider when starting a site. A LOT OF THINGS. I’ve undoubtedly missed a few in the process. My only hope is to be able to convey the important ones.

The first thing I did was create a font for the dialog because I thought it would bring a little uniqueness into the strip. It’s derived from my handwriting (sort of.) Also, I didn’t want to have to write with any kind of consistency and/or legibility so a font was the way to go.

However, it took a while. I’ll try to detail the process of font creation for those who are interested. Also, if you want the font itself, ask and you shall receive. But you have to ask nicely.

The site itself went through many, many iterations over the years and the character designs have as well shifted. I initially wanted everything to be done in Illustrator (for scalability and to have that illustrated look) but settled on Photoshop because the processes overall was faster.

For the characters, they were to have 4 fingers (3 + 1 thumb) because the math seemed right: 80% of the work but I opted for the anatomically correct five fingers (4 + 1) because as you can see, the strip is exceedingly anatomical.

In the end, the final call was “fuck it, it is what it is and will work, for now (and probably forever since I don’t plan on tweaking anything further in the foreseeable future.)”

So finally, it came time to actually draw up some content.  And well, the results speak for themselves.
